Wat Khao Rang Samakkhitham or Wat Khao Rang, is one of Phuket’s most beautiful and spiritually important places. This temple is located on Khao Rang Hill in Phuket Town and is home to the first and most famous golden sitting Buddha statue on the island. History of Wat Khao Rang

The Wat Khao Rang Temple was built in the 19th century, when King Rama II was in charge. Luang Pho Chaem, a highly respected monk from southern Thailand, started it. He was very important in spreading Buddhist teachings in Phuket. People knew Luang Pho Chaem for his kindness, wisdom, and ability to heal. The temple was built to honour his spiritual contributions. Over time, the temple became more well-known, especially after the large golden Buddha statue was built. It was the first of its kind in Phuket. This huge statue, which is in the Maravichai posture (subduing Mara), represents the moment the Buddha became enlightened, which was when he overcame desire, fear, and ignorance.

Wat Khao Rang has grown and been repaired many times since then, showing how much the community cares about and supports it. Later, artistic features like detailed wall paintings and statues of mythological figures were added to make the temple’s spiritual and aesthetic experience even better.

Location, Directions & Timings

Wat Khao Rang Temple is on the side of Khao Rang Hill, which is one of the most famous places to see in Phuket Town. The temple is in Tambon Talad Nuea, Mueang Phuket District, which is only a few minutes’ drive from the main part of town.

It’s easy and beautiful to get to Wat Khao Rang. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes to drive or ride a motorbike from Phuket Town. The path goes up a gentle hill along well-kept roads that are shaded by tropical trees. People who come can rent a motorbike, take a tuk-tuk, or hire a taxi. It opens from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM every day.

• The Buddha in the Golden Sitting Position: The huge golden Buddha statue sitting in the Maravichai posture (subduing Mara) is the best part of the temple. It is one of the first big Buddha statues in Phuket, and it still stands for peace and enlightenment. • The Park and Garden Area: The gardens around the house are well-kept and have flowers, trees, and shady places to sit and relax. Tips before you visit the Wat Khao Rang

• Men and women must both cover their shoulders and knees when they dress.
• Don’t wear clothes that are too tight, too revealing, or too see-through.
• If you’re not sure, bring a shawl or sarong to cover up before you go in.
• Before you go into any prayer halls or shrine areas, take off your shoes.
• Stay quiet and don’t talk loudly.
• Do not point your feet at images of Buddha or monks.
• As a sign of respect, you should always sit lower than monks or statues of Buddha.
