You can mostly find these markets in Southeast Asia, especially in Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam. At the floating markets, you can buy many things. People sell local cultural items, handicrafts, fresh fruits and vegetables, and famous local snacks. What attracts tourists the most is the unique way of buying and selling. How to Reach Thailand from Chennai?

The best and most common way to reach Thailand from Chennai is by air travel. There are several direct flights and connecting flights available from Chennai International Airport (MAA), in Chennai  to major cities in Thailand like Bangkok, Phuket, and Krabi.

1. By Flight

Connecting flights from Chennai to Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang Airport) take around 4 to 5 hours of air time. Airlines like Thai Airways, IndiGo, AirAsia, and SpiceJet operate regularly, with round-trip fares ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹30,000 based on season and booking time.

2. Entry Airports in Thailand

  • Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK)
  • Don Mueang Airport (DMK)
  • Phuket International Airport (HKT)
  • Krabi International Airport (KBV)

3. Visa Process

You can visit Thailand for up to 60 days without a visa. However, they must apply for the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) at least three days before their trip. For longer stays or other travel purposes, a visa is required. In such cases, travellers can choose from three options such as a Tourist Visa, Visa on Arrival, or an E-Visa.

4. Other Routes (Not Recommended)

Traveling from India to Thailand by train or bus isn’t possible, as there are no direct connections. Driving is an option via the India–Myanmar Highway, but it involves a long journey with multiple permits, paperwork, and advance planning.

Best Time to Visit Thailand from Chennai

The best time to visit Thailand from Chennai depends on the weather, your travel preferences, and the activities you plan to do. Generally, November to February is considered the ideal time to visit Thailand.

November to February

The period from November to February is the ideal time to visit Thailand, as the weather is cool, dry, and perfect for sightseeing and outdoor adventures. This season you can enjoy most of the attractions, as most of the places are operational. It's also when Thailand celebrates some of its most vibrant festivals, such as Loy Krathong (Festival of Lights) and the Phuket International Fireworks Festival. With clear skies, calm seas, and lively nightlife, it’s an excellent time for beach lovers, culture seekers, and party enthusiasts alike.

March to May

Thailand’s hot season lasts from March to May, with April being the hottest month. Temperatures often reach between 30°C and 40°C, and late May may bring thunderstorms. While the heat can be intense, this period offers lower travel and hotel costs, making it a budget friendly time to visit. However, northern regions like Chiang Mai may face high air pollution levels due to crop burning. On a brighter note, April hosts the famous Songkran Festival, where the entire country comes alive with joyful water fights and traditional celebrations. Early morning temple visits and island getaways are great ways to beat the heat during this season.

June to October

The rainy season runs from June to October, with temperatures ranging between 26°C and 34°C. Rainfall is frequent, often light in the mornings and heavier in the afternoons or evenings. Though the weather can interrupt outdoor plans, you get to see the kush greenery everywhere. This is also the off season, so flights and accommodations are generally more affordable. However, some activities like hiking, island hopping, and water sports may not be allowed, and a few places might close due to unpredictable weather conditions. It is actually a good time to visit and is ideal for those who enjoy nature and fewer crowds.
