Not at all surprised with Bangkok traffic, maybe because I have seen it all in India. But the drivers do have a way to get to your destination.

Bangkok is known for its nightlife and vibrant market. However what adds to the beauty of the city is the historical monuments, sprawling green parks and the museums. The places in Bangkok tell you stories about Bangkok art and antiques. So whether you are a one time visitor or a frequent traveller. Bangkok Trip Cost from India

Our overall cost of a Bangkok trip from India was reasonable because we had made our flight booking in advance and booked our Bangkok tour package at the right time. However there are other factors like when are you planning to visit, for how many days, in which season and type of accommodation you are choosing to stay which also influences the total cost. On an average the Bangkok tour package starts with an average price of 15000 – 20000 per person for 4 days 5 nights without flights. With flights the price may increase accordingly to around 40000 per person. And if you are opting for a premium stay the price may go up to 60000 per person as well. Customization, travel date and inclusion of the meals might also impact the final price.

How to book a Bangkok Tour Package with TripFactory?

I decided to go with TripFactory to book our Bangkok tour package. Our dates were very clear, we had decided to travel on 12th November for 10 nights and 11 days duration. There were many travel packages available with different rates. Since there were no packages specifically for Bangkok. I decided to get our trip customized as per our needs at a very reasonable cost of Rs 50,500. Bangkok Travel Tips

Best Time for a Bangkok Trip

I visited Bangkok in the month of November which was undoubtedly the best time to visit Thailand. The place will feel like paradise during these months. You can witness the grandeur of Christmas or the Royal Barge Procession if you visit Bangkok during the peak season. However I personally feel that summer is also not a bad time to visit. The summer season lasts from June to September. It’s the best time to explore the nearby islands and beaches. The only advice I can give you is to carry light and breathable clothes. May – October is also a good time to visit Bangkok if you are okay with slight rain. It is a good time to visit because the prices are usually lower for everything as compared to other places.

Places to Visit & Things to Do on a Bangkok Tour

Visit the Grand Palace

We reached the Grand Palace in the afternoon when it was burning hot. It was a bad decision on our end. My advice to you would be to carry a mini fan with you if you are visiting tourist places in the afternoon. It would be best if you could book it through a travel agency because that way you get to know about the cultural and historical significance of the place in depth. Let me tell you that the Grand Palace was really magical.

The Palace has many buildings within it. So most of the major events and ceremonies of Thailand are taken in the Golden Palace. The palace is really big which covers almost 2.4 million square feet and there are walls around the palace. Within these walls you will find 100s of historical buildings, golden spires and glittering mosaics that are 200 years old.

Pro Tip

Clothes: You must wear clothes that will cover your shoulders and knees. If you have not dressed appropriately you will need to purchase clothes from the entrance.

Ticket: It would be best if you could purchase the ticket physically from the temple instead of getting it online.

Best time to visit: It would be best to visit the temple in the morning when there would be less crowd and less heat.

Explore Lumphini Park

This place was not in our list at all. But when we landed in Bangkok, we were recommended to visit this place. So we decided to include this place in our list as it was near to the Golden Palace. It was hardly 10 – 15 minutes away from the Golden Palace. I would say that it was a very relaxing and enjoyable experience as there was greenery all around.

It was really nice to find people from all walks of life in the park. There were young toddlers to older folks practicing Tai Chi. I wanted the entire view of the park so I decided to take a boat ride from where I could see the entire park. One thing I regret not doing in the park is cycling. By the time we reached the park, cycling activity was shut. It seems it is open only between 10 am – 3 pm.

Pro tip

Entry fee: there is no entry fee, it is free of charge. Trust me this is one of the reasons you should visit the park.

Timing: The park is open between 4:30 am – 10:00 pm. It would be best if you can visit the park before 3 pm as you will also get to enjoy cycling.

Indulge in the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

In the evening I went to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. And let me tell you it was not only a place to shop but also a feast for the stomach. I was amazed to see the market on the canal side. There was no way I was going to miss the boat ride. The market looked quite structured and organised with people all around the corner. There were boats selling the fresh produce, local delicacies and unique souvenirs. And finally we ended our day by indulging in local delicacies. We tried coconut pancakes, pad thai, and mango sticky rice.

Pro Tip

Opening Hour: The market is open from 6pm to 11pm. It would be best to visit the market in the evening time after 8pm.

Entry fee: There is no entry fee to enter the market but the boat rides would be chargeable

Cuisine: You must try the mango sticky rice

Climb Wat Arun

The next day I started my journey with the beautiful climb to the Wat Arun temple. It was located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. From far we could notice the 70-meter-tall spire adorned with vibrant seashells and porcelain. The central prang represents the centre of the universe according to Hindu and Buddhist scripture, while the surrounding smaller prangs symbolise the four continents and the four major directions.

Pro Tip

Opening time: The temple usually opens between 8:00 am – 6:00 pm

Entry fee: There is an entrance fee for the foreigners of about 200Bhat

Explore Jim Thompson House

The journey to explore Jim Thompson House was an interesting one. We passed through the canals which finally led to a tranquil oasis. It felt like we were in another world. You will get to witness peaceful gardens, wooden houses and see Jim Thompson’s personal art collection. The personal guide was really informative. He kept us informed about the cultural and historical significance of the place. Since it was almost afternoon, it was quite hot. I wish I had bought my fan too.

Pro Tip

Opening time: The museum opens at around 9:30 am and closes at 10 pm.

Entry fee: There is no entry fee to enter the museum

Gift shop: Do not miss to visit the gift shop from where you can find antiques which you can remember forever.

Visit Chatuchak Market

I visited the market in the night to indulge in some Thai street food. I don’t really remember how many times I must have tried the mango sticky rice. The atmosphere was laidback with both tourists and locals navigating the local streets of the market. There were shops all around with an endless number of eatery options. Some food stalls also had the option to sit and enjoy the meal.

Pro tip

Opening time: It is usually open from 6pm – 12am on Saturdays and Sundays. While it is also open on Wednesday and Thursday from 7:00 am to 6:00pm.

Entry fee: No there is no entry fee to enter the Chatuchak Market

Money: Make sure to bring some money in small denominations

Spend a day in the Safari World

Being an adventurous person myself, this place was necessary to visit. I started in the morning and had a personal vehicle for the entire day so that I do not need to worry about it even if I get late. I had all my essentials in my bag right from the sunscreen,  a large hat and a pair of goggles. We reached the location on time. I had taken the tickets online and we did not have to line up in the queue. We immediately got the entry into the park.

The park was really huge, covering 280 acres of land. The park was divided into two main regions: the marine park and the safari park. I spend like 2 hours in the safari park and spend the rest of the day in the marine park. I did attend multiple animal shows that were happening multiple times in a day. It was a surreal experience to watch the aquatic animals slay the performance

Pro Tip:

Opening time: It is usually open from 9:00 am to 6:00pm

Entry Fee: The entry fee to the safari world is around 1000 Baht

Transport: It would be best if you can hire your own vehicle

Take a trip to Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so there was no chance I was not going to Ayutthaya. I had booked a personal cab to travel to the heritage site which was an hour away from Bangkok. The place has many palaces, historic ruins and grand temples that shows the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Unfortunately could not make it to the other cultural sites nearby Ayutthaya which were equally significant and beautiful. You can definitely try to add these places in your list next time. Some of these places were Bang Pa-In Palace, Wat Phu Khao Thong and Wat Chaiwatthanaram.

Pro Tip

Opening time: The place is usually open from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm

Entry Fee: There is no entry fee to enter the historical place

Dress: If you are travelling to Ayutthaya then it is best to dress modestly as you will find a lot of temples to visit.

Take a Dinner Cruise on the Chao Phraya River

The Chao Phraya River is one of the iconic landmarks of Bangkok. Enjoying a dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya River is not necessary but mandatory. However I happen to miss out on going for the dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya River. But one of my friends visited this place and loved the entire experience.

What to avoid?

Instead I went to the Iconsiam mall. The mall is quite big which has a mix of both local and international brands. There are many dining options and food stalls outside. However you will see that the mall does not have the latest collections. Also the options for dining at the restaurants are limited  so I would recommend you to skip this location despite many tik toks and reels showing otherwise.

Walk Through Chinatown and Yaowarat Road

Chinatown is one of the main areas of Bangkok. In the evening the Yaowarat Road is all lit. You will find food vendors lined up cooking everything from pad Thai to fresh mango sticky rice.

We literally had food from almost all the stalls and shopped our hearts out as the prices of most of the things were quite reasonable. What I really enjoyed was bargaining. We shopped Rs. 1000 antiques for Rs. 200. I did not really miss the Chandni chowk or the sarojini market of Delhi.

Where to Stay in Bangkok?

I decided to stay in Asia Hotel Bangkok which was near the Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Not only that, it had excellent connections to the BTS Skytrain and MRT Subway. It was a life saver during rush hour. It is just one stop away from the centre of Bangkok. One place that I would recommend you to stay away from is Khao San Road area as the night can get chaotic. Also the area is known for picpocketing. Other areas that I would recommend for you to stay as first timers would be Sukhumvit, or the Riverside area. These areas provide a great balance of accessibility, attraction and amenities.

Where to eat in Bangkok?

Bangkok is basically a food paradise. The culinary experience was one of the top highlights  of my trip to Bangkok. Obviously it can be a little difficult because the food in Thailand is usually spicy. But if you give them instructions to add less spice, it can be customized accordingly. I have made a list of my favourite must try items in Bangkok.

Some of the famous food that I discovered here are:

Mango Sticky Rice: I do not remember the number of times I must have had this sweet, creamy and sticky rice. It just melts in the mouth and feels really comforting.

Pad Thai : These are noodles usually cooked by professional chefs to perfection

Papaya salad : This is a spicy and tangy salad. It has a mix of green papaya, chilli and lime.

Gaeng Keow Wan Gai : This is a flavourful curry made with coconut milk, bamboo shoots and Thai basil.

Restaurants you must try

Bangkok has a vast dining experience that caters to all types of people be it a solo traveller or a person on budget. Here are some of my top picks that you must try if you are visiting Bangkok for the first time:

Amritsr

This restaurant is located in the Sukhumvit Soi 11 area. I was craving for punjabi food and this restaurant did really serve the purpose. You will be served authentic north Indian cuisine with rich flavour of biryani, garlic naan and must-try butter chicken in Bangkok, which will leave your taste buds wanting for more. Even the ambience of the place is designed in traditional Indian design. It is one restaurant to enjoy the fine Indian dining in Bangkok. The cost was also quite reasonable, around 300 Baht.

Jashn Indian Curries & Kebabs

The interior of this place is designed to give a luxurious look and will make a great place to hold special events. The place is well known for its curries and kebabs. The food here is inspired from the blend of Indian and Middle Eastern cooking. It serves the best Indian food in Bangkok. I would say that the place  is ideal for family and friends. The price was moderate of around 750 Baht.

Masala Art in Bangkok

Thanks to the recommendation of the hotel receptionist we went to this restaurant. It was located in the Sukhumvit area. The interior was really stylish which could easily accommodate 75 people. The vibe of the restaurant was really positive and there were people from all around the world. There was an outdoor dining area as well which provided a beautiful view of Sukhumvit Soi 55.The price was super reasonable. It cost around 125 baht. Also the restaurant was not packed with people which gave us proper space to enjoy our food.

Gaggan

This restaurant was just mindblowing because each dish prepared in this restaurant has a history behind it which is usually narrated by a music tract which makes it stand out of all the other restaurants in Bangkok. It is a popular dining option in Bangkok because of its magnificent ambience which is just breathtaking. There were visitors from all around the world flocking to this dining restaurant due to amazing service which is unmatched compared to other restaurants.

Annapurna

Since I have lived in Bangalore, half of my life, I was craving for a South Indian meal. Then we discovered this famous south Indian restaurant Annapurna. It was the perfect choice if you are looking for a South Indian meal in a foreign land. It is a small and cosy yet neat place where you get cheap Indian food in Bangkok at a very reasonable rate. We opted to go for a breakfast meal in this restaurant.

Indian Hut

This restaurant serves traditional Indian food without sacrificing Indian flavours. It has now become a household name and is visited by most of the Indians for their delectable dishes. It was established in 1955 and is well known for its North Indian Cuisine and Indian Chinese fusion food. The chef serves well organised and lip tempting food which adds a unique taste to the taste buds of the customers.

Maya Restaurant

If you want to have finger-licious delicious food against a nice background then you cannot miss this place . You have more options for non-vegetarians than the vegetarian one. One will be in awe with the hospitality and the care taken by the staff. You get almost everything from the Indian curry in Bangkok to the sweetened dessert but the Tandoori Chooza is definitely a must try and a dish to die for.

Bawarchi Rooftop Indian Restaurant

If you want royal treatment and authentic Indian food in Bangkok, then bawarchi Rooftop Indian Restaurant will be the perfect choice. It is one of the oldest restaurants in Bangkok with more than 20 years of experience. The main cuisine that is easily available is Mughlai food in Bangkok. So what are you waiting for, immediately reserve your seats as it will definitely not disappoint your taste buds.

NILA Coastal Indian Cuisine

If you are craving for seafood then this restaurant is sure to impress your modern palate. The food here is inspired from the rich coastal food found in India. Each dish that is cooked here tells a story about the rich tradition of the Indian coastline. The ambience is designed from the 1900’s taken from the Goan merchant home filled with vibrant colours and architectural brilliance. The food here will not just satisfy your hunger but will nourish your soul.

Permits & Document Requirements

There are certain essential documents that you need to carry with yourself if you are planning to visit Bangkok. I had researched all the documents that were required. Therefore would like to list down the important permits and documents required:

Passport: Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months from the planned flying date and also must have 2 blank pages.

Visa application form: You will need to fill an online application form.

Photograph: You will need passport size photo that is 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm

Flight ticket: A return ticket will indicate a round trip whereas an onward ticket simply shows your departure from Thailand

Proof of fund: You need to have sufficient balance in your bank account around 20,000 Thai Baht per person.

Vaccination/Test

There are certain vaccinations necessary to fly to Thailand. You need to fulfill these requirements according to the government guidelines.

Thailand Pass or TDAC

The Thailand Pass or TDAC is actually an online form needed for all visitors entering Thailand and this is apart from the visa status.

Proof of accommodation

You are also required to present your accommodation proof in Thailand. The valid proof of your hotel or resort booking can be used for this purpose.

How to plan a 7 Day Bangkok trip?

Bangkok is a place with many destinations and sometimes it can get really difficult as to which place you should visit. Especially if you are planning a trip for 7 days. So here I have tried to make a small itinerary with important places that you can visit on your visit to Bangkok.

Also observe the dolphins, sea lions and orangutans at the entertaining animal show. Lunch and transport are included on this full-day excursion.

You can marvel at the bustling market and buildings below. The Skywalk is located at the top of King Power Mahanakhon Building. Visitors visit this place throughout the year. It is a must visit attraction and needs to be added to your bucket list. It is one of the world’s largest glass trays on the 78th floor which is on the Southeast Asia fastest lift. It provides a 360 degree view of Bangkok’s breath-taking skyline.

In the evening you can visit the Chaophraya river. It’s one of the luxurious river cruises in Bangkok through which you can view the main attractions like the Grand Palace and Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn). During the cruise you can enjoy the delicious feast while watching the lit skyline pass by.

Here do not forget to take a boat ride through the narrow canals and explore vendors selling fresh fruits, spices, Thai handicrafts, and much more. At the end return to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 6 – Day at Leisure – Shopping

After having your breakfast you can spend your time shopping in the vibrant market of Phuket. On day one you can start shopping at the Platinum Fashion Mall. It is a popular shopping hub among the shoppers, traders and tourists. .Central World Bangkok is visited frequently by people as it has many international brands. It is a big mall with many good deals. MBK Center or also known as Mahboonkrong is one of the top shopping malls in Bangkok. Here you will find almost anything that you want, that is why it is loved by the locals and tourists both. Post shopping in the Platinum Fashion Mall you can visit the Platinum night market which consists of 40 shops. It is one of the smallest night markets in Thailand. Tips on getting around in Bangkok

Carry cash : Cash is king in Thailand. Apart from fancy restaurants and rooftop bars, most places including local transport options, tuk tuk and river taxis only accept cash

Layer up: Public transit is freezing cold, so carry a sweater if you are hopping between BTS and MRT lines

Transport: Use Skytrain and MRT for long distances and tuk tuk or motorbikes taxi for shorter trips

Stay near public transit: Choose accommodation close to BTS or MRT station to save time and hassle.
