Located in the south of the city in Phra Pradaeng District of Samut Prakan Province, it is also known as the “green lung of Bangkok”. Bang Kachao is a man made island formed by the canal that cuts off a horseshoe bend in the Chao Phraya River. It is spread across the 16 acres of the land and is known for the extensive green land. Bang Kachao was earlier used for agriculture purposes by the locals who stayed in wooden houses and cultivated the land. It is a popular spot among nature lovers, bird watchers and cyclists who want to explore and be by themselves.

Opening and Closing Hours
The Bang Kachao park is open everyday from 5:00am – 7pm. So you can plan your visit accordingly. The Bang Krachao Floating Market is generally open on the weekends (Saturday & Sunday) between 7:00am – 4:00pm.

Bang Krachao Floating Market (Bang Nam Peung)

This is a local market where you will find old traditional folks living in the area selling local unique stuff. It is usually less crowded than other areas and you will definitely enjoy the local atmosphere,
Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park
There are a lot of activities in the park that one can enjoy such as the boardwalks and the park’s bike paths. You can also enjoy watching the bird and or enjoy the lake view that is on the wooden bridge.

History
It was previously used as an agricultural land which consisted of the mangrove forests and wetlands. These lands were fertile which was good for fishing and farming communities. However due to the rapid changes and development in the late 20th century, there have been concerns about the loss of green spaces and encroachment. Since then there have been many efforts to save the Bang Kachao park. However there have been challenges faced by Bang Kachao park and there has been an increase in threat to the ecosystem.
In the future to address this rising concern there has to be an effective collaboration between the Government, NGOs and local communities to tackle this issue effectively.
How to reach the Bang Kachao?
To reach the Bang Kachao park take the MRT (Blue Line) to Khlong Toei station. From the station walk or hire a taxi to Wat Khlong Toei Nok Pier. Then board the Chao Phraya River to Bang Kachao. From there you can rent a cycle to explore the park.
Best time to visit the Bang Kachao
The best time to visit the place would be from November to January when the climate is cool and calm. You will experience less humidity and a cool breeze. It will be Ideal to visit the place during the morning hours when there will be less crowd.
January to June is also not a bad time to visit. There will be a little more humidity and pollution. However you should definitely avoid visiting the park during June to October as it is the rainy season and you might miss out on certain activities.
Some tips before you visit the park
- Be prepared for the heat by wearing light clothing and applying sunscreen especially if you are planning to visit the park during the summer time.
- Since you will walk a lot it is best to wear or carry well gripped shoes.
- Although you will find food in the park area, it would be best to carry your own water and some food depending on how long you will want to stay.
- You can also rent a cycle to explore the cycling trail path which will take good two hours.
- You do not need to worry about the entrance fee as the entry to the park is free of cost.

With 7 waterfall layers and each layer being 4 meters high, you will find a lot of stops with scenic beauty and food stalls. There is a stream that flows through the waterfall and has a spacious swimming area as well.
