Japan will launch a digital nomad visa in March, which will allow citizens of about 49 countries to stay for about six months.   The nation serves as an outstanding destination to combine travel and work and offers diverse landscapes and the world’s popular pop culture. This move will be taken to boost the tourism industry and its economy, the island is increasingly opening for foreigners now.

This announcement was made by Japan’s immigration service agency that the nation will issue digital nomad visas within the upcoming weeks. Hopefully, applications for the visa will start in March 2024, and this will make it easy for IT engineers and other workers for overseas companies to stay in the country as per the Immigration Service Agency. 

Your eligibility for a digital nomad visa 

The nation’s digital nomad visa is available for citizens of 49 countries as well as territories. These are the nations that are eligible for those that have a signed tax treaty with the country or are visa-exempt while traveling to Japan. Below is the list of eligible nations; however, India is not included in the list; it comprises : 

  • All EU countries 
  • Armenia
  •  Belarus
  •  Georgia
  •  Iceland
  •  Liechtenstein
  •  Moldova
  •  Monaco
  •  North Macedonia
  •  Norway
  •  Serbia
  •  Switzerland
  •  Turkey 
  •  The United Kingdom 

To get eligible for Japan’s digital nomad visa candidates should earn about 10 million Japanese Yarn annually and must have health insurance coverage as well. Also, family members and spouses will be allowed to accommodate digital nomads during their stay, but they should also be covered by health insurance. 

According to a US study, digital nomads are much more productive than office ones and are much happier because of their job satisfaction and flexibility. Many countries like Germany, Canada, and Portugal already introduced digital nomad visas and altered their laws to promote work tourism. There are now many work centers that have been started since many years ago that offer people the flexibility to choose their working palaces comprising beach locations as well.

After receiving a visa the holders can legally live and work remotely from anywhere in Japan for about six months. It is welcome news that is getting much praise from an online community. Also, the country will not provide residency cards to nomad visa holders, and also visas cannot be renewed instantly. Instead they have to reapply after six months of leaving the country, as per Japan Times reports.
