Zero Point Guide

Zero Point is situated at an altitude of 15300 feet above the sea level and is an offbeat destination to visit in Sikkim. The splendid panoramas you will witness at Zero Point will make you spellbound. The name of this place is called Zero Point, as it is the last point of the paved road and tourists are not allowed to proceed further from this point.

Most of the time you will find this area covered in a blanket of snow. This point of interest is also close to Dongkha La pass, which is a passage to Tibet, and also near the Tso Lhamo lake. 

How to Reach

Zero Point is located at a distance of 166 km from Gangtok that will take about 6 hours and 8 minutes to reach the point. Hence it is best to spend a night at Lachung and travel to Zero Point  the next day, which is situated at a distance of 51.1 km and will take around 1 hour and 46 minutes to reach the destination.

Before traveling to Zero Point , you need to ensure obtaining the Inner Line Permit (ILP), which is mandatory to carry for visiting areas placed on a close proximity to the Indo-Chinese border.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Zero Point is between April and May, when you can witness the valley blooming with rhododendrons that makes your journey scenic. 

Travel Tips

Zero Point being at a high altitude, is not suitable for people having breathing problems as it can lead to altitude sickness. Ensure to carry sufficient water and necessary medications. If possible, you must also carry a portable oxygen cylinder to avoid breathing problems. Also carry warm clothes as the temperature there is freezing and will give you a frigid experience.
