Nathula Pass is another popular tourist attraction of Sikkim that is located at an elevation of 14200 feet above sea level. This pass has a historical significance as it was part of the Silk Route. If you get clear surroundings free of mist then you will be able to see the trails that used to be the route for traders from India and Tiber to transfer goods across the border.

How to Reach
Nathula Pass is situated at a distance of 57.7 km from Gangtok from where it takes about 1 hour and 41 minutes to reach the destination. There are a number of other viewpoints as well that you can visit towards your journey to the pass. You can travel to this destination by hiring a jeep.
You will also require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) to visit Nathula Pass, as it is a sensitive area for being a border area with China.

Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Nathula Pass is during summer starting from April to mid June or during the winter that dwells between November to January. During this season, you will also be able to witness heavy snow.
However, you must note that Nathula Pass remains closed to visitors on Mondays and Tuesdays. Hence, you must plan your itinerary accordingly to avoid visiting this region on either of the two days.

Travel Tips
You must seek permission before clicking photographs, as photography is prohibited in this border area. Since the elevation of Nathula Pass is high, you must carry your necessary medicines to avoid falling sick.
