Lachen can be reached via Bagdogra and any parts of Sikkim using public transport or private or shared taxis. From Siliguri, you can reach Lachen by driving for around 7 hours 15 mins (approx.), under normal traffic conditions and cover a distance of 193 km. However, mostly the tourists break their journey by halting at Gangtok for a few days and then continuing to reach Lachen.

The fastest route to visit Lachen from Gangtok may take around 5 hours and 15 minutes to cover a distance of 125km, which is via Singtam. In the case of Siliguri, after reaching there by train, you may get a private taxi from the railway station and the fare may start from Rs 2500 and may vary based on the type of vehicle.

In case of traveling by bus, there is no direct bus to Lachen, but you can travel up to Mangan, which is 59.5 km away with a travel time of approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes.

In case of travelers reaching Siliguri by flight, can drive to Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus, where they will be able to hire cabs or use the bus service if they are able to reach before 11 AM, in case planning to visit Mangan or there will be options for a number of locations, based on your preference.

However, before reaching Lachen you need to communicate with the travel agency to make the necessary arrangements for the Inner Line Permits (ILPs), as they are mandatory for non-Sikkimese citizens towards reaching Lachen.

In case you are on a train journey, traveling to reach Siliguri via NJP, and then from there you can choose your preferred means of road transport, either bus, shared or private cab, or rental bike to travel to Gangtok.

After visiting Gangtok you may halt there and obtain your ILP or attain it online beforehand. From there you can travel 125 km to reach Lachen and spend your time in the midst of nature. However, people with high altitude sickness must make the necessary preparations before visiting.

In case of traveling by flight, the nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport (IXB), which is 2014 km away from Lachen. However, you may either take a cab or reach out to Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus, where you may avail the bus options, best suited to your travel plans.

You may also visit Pakyong Airport if you find tickets available. The distance between Pakyong airport and Lachen is 136 km, which is the fastest route and can be reached within 5 hours and 25 minutes (approximately).
