Hanuman Tok Guide

Hanuman Tok is a sacred Hindu temple that is devoted to Lord Hanuman. The vantage point of this temple. You need to climb a number of steps as you need to deposit your shoes near the parking lot. On the stairway, you will find a number of bells hanging from the roof that enhance the divinity of the area.

The temple is situated at an elevation of  7000 feet above sea level. The lofty mountains around the area will offer you panoramic vistas. If you examine carefully you may find traces of Tibetan architecture in different parts of Hanuman Tok.

This temple is maintained by the Black Cat division of the Indian Army. You can also find the burial ground of the Namgyal family at the beginning of the stairway.

Hanuman Tok is situated at a distance of 7.9 km from Gangtok and takes around 28 minutes to reach the destination. You can hire a taxi to reach Hanuman Tok from Gangtok while enjoying the scenic drive.

Folklore

As per the local legend, it is believed that Lord Hanuman rested in this hilltop, exactly where the temple is placed while carrying back Sanjeevani herb to save the life of Lakshmana who was injured in the battle of Ramayana.
