Do Drul Chorten Stupa is a popular tourist attraction in Gangtok that was built by the 14th Dalai Lama, Trulshik Rinpoche back in the year 1946. The pearly white dome topped with a shiny golden spire is dedicated to Dorjee Rinpoche, also called Vajrakilaya, who is a cardinal deity in the Nyingma order of Tibetan Buddhism.
The stupa is surrounded by 108 prayer wheels that are engraved with sacred mantras. A number of significant and sacred relics and manuscripts that are related to Dorje Phurba are preserved inside the building. There is also a complete collection of mandalas of Zurma mantras and Dorjee Rinpoche.
There are also some small stupas present within the complex, among which there is one dedicated to Trulshik Rinpoche. named Jang Jhap Chorten. The complex also has two giant statues of Guru Rinpoche in the Chorten Lhakhang area.

Folklore
In Tibetan Buddhism, Yidam is considered to be an important deity and also the epitome of sacred activities among the Buddha practices. As per the locals, Yidam is considered to cleanse spiritual pollution, remove the obstacles from the path of Buddhism, and destroy evil forces.
The local rumors also state that before Do Drul Chorten Stupa was built here, evil spirits used to wander this area. Later in the year 1940, when Trushik Rinpoche came from Tibet, the hermitage was built here to shun the evil.
