Bakthang Waterfall Guide

Bakthang Waterfall is another tourist attraction near Gangtok on the way to Tashi viewpoint. The waterfall offers the tourists mesmerizing views. The waterfall is flowing horizontally and not vertically, which makes the site more attractive.

This waterfall has its source from Ratey Chu which is situated at an elevation of 12500 feet above sea level. In the Sikkimese language, Bak means jungle and Thang means meadow. The water flowing down from the waterfall is stored in a shallow pool.

How to Reach

Bakthang Waterfall is located at a distance of 4.2 km from Gangtok and will take about 13 minutes to reach the waterfall. You can hire a local taxi to reach this destination and enjoy the serene weather and amazing view of the waterfall.

The best time to visit Bakthang Waterfall is during the monsoon (August to September) when you can witness the water gushing down creating a majestic splendor.

The waterfall will be surrounded by mist when cascading down offering a scenic view. However, traveling to Sikkim during monsoon is not suggested.
