- Apply for a network sim card from BSNL. In Sikkim, it is the sole service provider with connection.

- You need permission to go to North Sikkim. Bring 10 or so passport-size pictures and identification to get permission. Major tourist destinations must be visited if you don’t carry the permits your ability to access these protected areas may be restricted.
- Make sure you have enough water, particularly in the mountainous parts, to prevent dehydration.
- Be mindful of local customs and get permission before taking any pictures.
