PM Modi’s Recent Visit To Lakshadweep Garners Renewed Interest Of Tourists

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited Lakshadweep and shared his exhilarating experience via tweets. PM Modi had a two-day packed trip to the South of India, including Kerala and Tamil Nadu, during which he made a stop at the Union Territory of Lakshadweep- ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

He interacted with the locals and posted various underwater pictures from trying his hand at snorkeling on social media which went viral. 

“I am still in awe of the stunning beauty of its (Lakshadweep) islands and the incredible warmth of its people”, said PM Modi.

In a series of posts he shared pictures of his travels spanning from icy blue waters to clear skies and white beaches. He particularly enjoyed his early morning walks on the serene beaches of Lakshadweep and described it as moments of pure bliss. Sharing pictures of himself spending a quiet time on the beaches, he wrote about the scenic beauty and tranquility that he found to be mesmerizing. 

He also talked about how he tried his hand at snorkelling (It is an underwater activity that helps you explore the ocean from the surface without having to dive too deep.) during his stay and that it was an exhilarating experience for him. 

PM Modi talked about his interaction with the local people from Agatti, Bangaram and Kavaratti and expressed his gratitude for the people of the islands for their hospitality. 

During his visit he inaugurated various developmental projects among other important work. In his tweets he expands on the important purpose behind his visit to the beautiful archipelago (a group of islands and the waterbody around them). 

He wrote how through enhanced development the government plans to create futuristic infrastructure, better healthcare opportunities. 

Clean drinking water and faster internet are also among the various developments that the government plans to create alongwith preserving and encouraging the authentic local culture. 

He also reflected on this opportunity and how it made him reflect on ways to work harder for the welfare of 140 crore Indians.

On Tuesday in Agatti, inaugurated various developmental projects worth over Rs. 1,150 crore in Agatti. The Kochi-Lakshadweep Islands Submarine Optical Fiber Connection (KLI-SOFC) project, aimed at overcoming the challenge of slow internet speed in the Union Territory was also inaugurated by him. 

He spoke about his interactions with the beneficiaries of the numerous government schemes and how it was inspiring to see the positive effect of these initiatives, like better health opportunities, self-reliance, improvement in agricultural practices, women empowerment etc. He mentions how truly moved he was when hearing about these incredible life journeys. 

Other inaugurations included the Low-Temperature Thermal Desalination (LTTD) plant at Kadmat, that is expected to produce 1.5 lakh litres of clean drinking water every day. Another was the Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) for all houses of Minicoy and Agatti Islands. The first ever battery backed solar power project plant at Kavaratti was also dedicated by PM Modi. 

The renovation of the Health Care Facility in Kalpeni and the construction of the five model Anganwadi Centres (Nand Ghars) in the five islands of Androth, Chetlat, Kadmat, Agatti, and Minicoy were also introduced by Prime Minister Modi.

He went ahead and encouraged travellers and adventurers to add Lakshadweep to their bucket list.

Lakshadweep is not just a group of islands; it’s a timeless legacy of traditions and a testament to the spirit of its people. My visit has been an enriching journey of learning and growing,” PM Modi posted on X. 

These initiatives and pictures on social media have garnered a lot of attention from Indian Twitter users, with one of them saying, “For those who want to swim and snorkel and sunbathe on a beach, Lakshadweep is a better destination for you than Maldives.”
