The airport is set to open in April 2025, with the first phase, including a passenger terminal and one runway, ready to handle domestic and international flights.
Located in Jewar, Greater Noida, the airport is about 75 km from Delhi, providing vital relief to the crowded Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi.
The airport will feature five runways by completion, expanded from the original two-runway plan, to accommodate growing air traffic.
Initially, the airport will handle 12 million passengers annually, with plans to increase capacity to 70 million once all phases are completed.
The airport is being built in four phases over a 40-year period, with the first phase focusing on a single runway and terminal, and future expansions increasing capacity.
The Noida International Airport will span 1,300 hectares of land, with enough space for multiple terminals, runways, cargo facilities, and other aviation-related infrastructure.
The airport’s terminal design is inspired by India’s cultural heritage, incorporating architectural elements reminiscent of the ghats of Haridwar and Varanasi.
The airport will feature a multimodal cargo facility, with Air India SATS establishing an integrated terminal on 80 acres for efficient warehousing and logistics.
NIA will be connected to the Delhi-Varanasi Bullet Train project, cutting travel time from Delhi to Jewar to just 21 minutes.
A 72.3 km rapid rail corridor will link the airport to Delhi and NCR regions, with travel times of around 80 minutes from IGI Airport to NIA.
