Malaysia has extended its visa exemption program for Indian nationals until December 31, 2026.
The program aims to attract more tourists, enhance Malaysia’s economy, and prepare for its ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025.
The visa-free policy supports Malaysia’s preparations for a major tourism push in 2026.
The extension was announced by Home Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Awang Alik Jeman, emphasizing both tourism growth and national security.
The visa exemption was initially introduced on December 1, 2023, as part of Malaysia’s visa liberalization initiative.
The decision to waive visas was announced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during his People’s Justice Party’s annual congress in November 2023.
Malaysia followed similar visa-waiver initiatives by Vietnam, Thailand, and Sri Lanka.
Indian and Chinese nationals can enjoy visa-free visits to Malaysia for up to 30 days per entry.
Key destinations include Langkawi’s beaches, Kuala Lumpur’s Petronas Towers, George Town’s street art and food, Cameron Highlands’ tea plantations, and Borneo’s rainforests.
Malaysia seeks to increase tourism while maintaining strict national security measures.
