According to the statement, the twelve components of the nomination are Shivneri Fort, Salher Fort, Raigad, Rajgad, Lohagad, Khanderi Fort, Pratapgad, Panhala Fort, Suvarnadurg, Vijay Durg and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. India’s Maratha Military Landscape was inscribed on the Unrecognized UNESCO World Heritage List in 2021. This nomination is a special heritage asset as these forts have been carefully selected from the first batch of over 390 forts in Maharashtra, reflecting the diversity of scale, hierarchy and type.

All eight forts are protected by the Archaeological Survey of India, including Lohagad, Raigad, Shivneri Fort, Suvarnadurg, Vijaydirg, Panhala Fort, Sindhudurg and Gingee Fort.
