Sikkim to Benefit from ₹165 Crore Investment in Tourism Infrastructure

Skywalk at Bhaleydunga, South Sikkim

A flagship project in South Sikkim will see the construction of a spectacular Skywalk at Bhaleydunga in Yangang, Namchi. With a budget of ₹97.37 crore, this 240-meter-long glass-bottom Skywalk will be perched at an altitude of 3,200 meters. It will be accessible via a 3.5-kilometer ropeway, offering breathtaking views of the Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary and the Bhaleydunga Peak.

The project will also feature a funicular, various support facilities, and is set to generate 61 local jobs. Positioned as a key eco-tourism attraction, this development underscores Sikkim’s focus on sustainable tourism.

Infrastructure Upgrades at Nathula Pass

The second project focuses on Nathula Pass, a historic border point between India and China. With an allocation of ₹68.19 crore, this initiative will enhance the tourist experience by addressing congestion issues and upgrading infrastructure. Planned developments include expanded parking facilities, tourist information centres, and recreational spaces. This project is expected to create 30 local jobs and accommodate the growing influx of visitors to this strategic location.
