PM Modi’s first visit to UNESCO Heritage Site – Kaziranga National Park in Assam 

PM Modi took an elephant and a jeep safari on his first maiden visit to Kaziranga National Park in Assam on March 9, 2024. Since 1957, till date he is the first PM to visit the park which is  a UNESCO World Heritage site. He enjoyed the elephant safari there, followed by a jeep safari inside the MIhimukh area located in the National Park’s Central Kohora range. He was seen in jungle attire with a fatigued jacket and hat. About 16 elephants followed him as he traversed the safari route, including the Dagland and Faliomari areas. While exploring the Park PM Modi was blessed with views of dashing past his path along with one-horned rhinoceros, deer, wild buffaloes and many avian species. 

During his visit to the Kaziranga National Park, he interacted with the team of women forest guards at the site of conservation efforts and protecting the wildlife and forests. PM Narendra Modi shared his pictures feeding elephants the sugarcane named Lakhimai, Pradyumna and Phoolmai. PM Modi alleged, “ Kaziranga is known for the rhinos, but there are also large numbers of elephants there, along with several other species,”. 

The PM urged everyone to visit Kaziranga National Park in Assam to enjoy the landscapes and the warmth of the people living here in Assam. On X, he wrote, “I would urge you all to visit Kaziranga National Park and experience the unparalleled beauty of its landscapes and the warmth of the people of Assam. It’s a place where every visit enriches the soul and connects you deeply with the heart of Assam.”

Kaziranga National Park is considered the jewel of the crown of Assam and is an abode to the many rhinos, more than 700 bird species, the greatest population of dolphins, and one of the highest densities of tigers. During his visit, while conversing with a team of women forest guards named Van Durga, he called their dedication as well as courage genuinely inspiring. On PM Modi’s visit to Kaziranga National Park, gratitude was shown by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, saying it has firmly put the state in the global wildlife circuit. Mr. Sarma said in an X Post, “Thank you, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, for visiting Kaziranga and experiencing its unique beauty. This has firmly put Assam in the global wildlife circuit and will help us reach out to millions of nature enthusiasts who want to visit our beautiful state. “.

Because of the PM’s visit to the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve on these dates, the jeep safari and elephant ride were suspended that is from 7th March to 9th March. The notice was issued by Arun Vignesh, Divisional forest officer, “The jeep safari and elephant rides in Kaziranga Range, Kohora, will be unavailable to visitors. Jeep safaris will be suspended on March 7, March 8, and March 9 in the forenoon, while elephant rides will be suspended on March 8 and March 9.”

Later, PM Modi unveiled the 125-foot-high Statue of Valour honoring Ahom General Lachit Barphukan in Jorhat. After that, Narendra Modi proceeded to Maleng Meteli Pothar in Jorhat district to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for many central and state projects amounting to Rs 18000 crore. From March 8 2024 to March 10 2024, PM visited Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and  West Bengal.
