Located in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddha Nagar, the airport is in the final stages of preparation. It aims to enhance connectivity by linking major cities, such as Agra and Mathura, to international air travel routes. Currently, both IndiGo and Akasa Air are in discussions with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) about routes for domestic and international flights, as reported by the Financial Express.
The delay from the initial September 2024 opening was attributed to multiple factors, including delays in the delivery of construction materials and equipment. Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) explained to Business Standard that supply chain constraints stemming from COVID-19 restrictions and global geopolitical tensions contributed to the revised timeline.
