Singapore celebrated a milestone in tourism this October as Indian visitor arrivals crossed the one-million mark, reaching the figure two months earlier than in 2023. This achievement underscores Singapore’s rapid tourism recovery and highlights India’s status as the city-state’s third-largest source market, according to the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).

The momentous occasion occurred on October 31, when Singapore Airlines flight SQ-421 from Mumbai landed at Changi Airport, carrying Singapore’s millionth Indian visitor for 2024. The surge represents a 12% increase in Indian tourists from January to October compared to the same period in 2023, illustrating the robust post-pandemic growth in Singapore’s tourism sector.

Markus Tan, STB’s Regional Director for India, the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa, remarked on the significance of reaching this milestone earlier than expected. “Welcoming our one-millionth Indian visitor two months earlier than in 2023 demonstrates Singapore’s enduring appeal as a premier short-haul destination for Indian travellers,” he stated. Tan noted the importance of major Indian cities as key tourism sources, attributing Singapore’s appeal to strong connectivity and a diverse array of experiences suited to Indian visitors.

Singapore Airlines has also played a crucial role in boosting tourism, with Sy Yen Chen, General Manager for India, affirming that “India remains a key market for Singapore Airlines, and we’re proud that our world-class service continues to make us one of the preferred airlines for Indian travellers.”

Raj Rishi Singh, Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Business Officer Corporate at MakeMyTrip, echoed this sentiment. “Singapore continues to captivate Indian travellers, ranking as the fourth most searched destination on our platform,” he shared, adding that searches for Singapore have grown by 11% year-on-year. “Reaching the 1 million visitor milestone is a remarkable achievement, and we’re proud to play a role in this journey.”

The tourism boom has also positively impacted Changi Airport. Li Hongyi, Associate General Manager for Market Development at Changi Airport Group, highlighted India’s significance, noting it as the airport’s sixth-largest market in passenger traffic, with a substantial share of this being Indian tourists traveling to Singapore.

The STB credits Singapore’s popularity among Indian visitors to its robust travel connectivity and the range of experiences that cater to various interests.
