On Tuesday Flight operations start after a gap of over 3 years. In early 2020 due to resumptions of flight operations that were suspended, aviation firm Flybig will now operate a 19-seater aircraft between Dehradun and Pithoragarh thrice a week i.e. on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. This extension of air connectivity is expected to open new possibilities for tourists offering more convenient options to reach lesser-known and different destinations.
Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia who addressed the inaugural function virtually, said that after the resumption of flight operations from the airport, the distance between Kumaon and Garhwal regions of Uttrakhand will become very close.
He said that the duration of the journey between the two will be reduced from 11 hours by road to one hour by air. He also added that the resumption of services from the airport will soon be extended to Pantnagar and then to Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad as well.

The Union minister said both state and the central governments were making efforts under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi to help Uttarakhand realize its value and potential in terms of divinity and development.
Scindia also put light on his personal connection with Uttarakhand and said that he studied in the state for five years and will remain indebted to it till his last breath.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami who addressed the function in Pithoragarh said that air connectivity between Dehradun and Pithorgarh will give the required boost to religious tourism in the Manaskhand region.
He gave an example of the visit of the PM to Jolingkong for a darshan of the Adi Kailash Peak and Jaegshwar Dham that had awakened the interest of many visitors who have begun to visit these lesser-known destinations in large numbers.
Dhami alleged that air connectivity will also further stimulate the growing tourist interest in these lesser-known destinations. The CM also expressed his intentions to ask Flybib to increase the air service frequency between the two towns from three to five days every week.

Also, he mentioned the plan to establish night landing facilities as well at Naini- the airport that further enhanced its operational capabilities.
This great move of resuming flight operations at Naini-Saini airport not only signifies a renewed era of air travel for Pithorgarh but also offers a promise to boost tourism, fostering economic development along with strengthening links across Uttarakhand’s diverse landscapes.
These outstanding efforts of the government along with aviation entities will have a positive impact on the region.
