First flight to Kailash Mansarovar takes off from Nepalgunj Airport on Monday

With Nepal’s Shree Airlines starting operations from Nepalgunj Airport to Kailash Mansarovar, now many devotees can fly across Mt Kailash and Mansarovar Lake and enjoy a close view of holy places. On Monday, A Chartered, described as the first mountain flight to Kailash Mansarovar, took off from Nepalgunj with 38 Indians on board.

Offering a breathtaking view of the revered Mt Kailash and Manasarovar Lake, the chartered flight soared to an elevation of about 27,000 ft, offering a beautiful spectacle of these holy pilgrimage sites. The flight commanded by Captain Prafull Vaidya and Captain Rajesh Shreshtha Flew at this height to provide a beautiful view of the holy lake and Kailash; the mountain reverted as Lord Shiva’s abode.

Indian tourists who reached Kailash Mansarovar on a mountain flight from Nepalgunj felt happiness. A hotelier there, Punam Bhusal, said,” It certainly helps augment the tourism industry”.

The Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage in the Ngari prefecture of Tibet’s autonomous region is the most sacred by Hindus worldwide. After the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, China opened the pilgrimage route in 2023; however, the massive hike in fees and several restrictions on visas for Indian pilgrims practically make it difficult for many people not to happen.

According to Shree Airlines, the flight was coordinated with Siddhartha Hospitality Group, Temple Trip Group, India, Nepalagunj and Pathil Holidays, Kathmandu. Many thousands and thousands of Hindus visit Mansarovar via Nepalagunj Humal, Nepal, which is the shortest and cheapest route. Mr Neupane said that mountain flights would help recover declining business and help identify tourism destinations for Indian tourists.

He believed that “At least one flight for Indian tourists in the season will boost tourism activities’ ‘. As per the organizers, the flight time from Nepalagunj to Kailash Mansarovar is 75 minutes.

Keshav Neupane, regional director of the Siddhartha Business Group, started the venture. He told the media,

“This chartered flight of Shri Airlines with 38 Indian tourists took around one and a half hours to complete the trip“.

The flight offered a beautiful  view of sacred  Mount Kailash and the Mansarovar Lake. This maiden flight had many tourists from many Indian cities, including New Delhi, Mumbai, and other states of Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.

Neupane also said,

“The flight to Mt Kailash and Mansarovar is cheap, quick, reliable and safe”.

Keshav Neupane, regional director of the Siddhartha Business Group, told the media,

We will try to make it as frequently as possible based on the demand, “he said.

Keshav Neupane, regional director of the Siddhartha Business Group, told the media,

On the other hand, the Director of Nepal Tourism Board, Mani Lamichhane, put light on the importance of the Thai endeavour to enhance the border tourism movement, and with this innovative approach, Indian tourists can now witness the outstanding and enchanting beauty of Mt Kailash Mansarovar without the requirement of travel to Kathmandu.

The location of Nepalgunj is a mere 200 km northeast of Lucknow in India and very much accessible by road, which will provide a streamlined journey for pilgrims.

Lamichhane noted, “The Indian tourists can feel the divinity without doing much hard work. They Don’t need to spend days to see Mt Kailash. They will get to see it within 1.5 hours “.
