Thousands of local and international tourists visit the DHR, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, during this busy time of year, according to railway officials. According to Sharma, the operation of these joyride unique services would enhance their ability to appreciate the hills’ natural beauty.
In order to improve connectivity to all areas of the northeastern region and make travel safer, the NFR, which operates in the northeastern states as well as in seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of north Bihar, is constantly growing its network, he said. This creates new opportunities for both domestic and foreign travelers to experience the scenic beauty and cultural diversity of its territory.
The CPRO added that in addition to consistently growing its network to improve connectivity to every area of the region, the NFR has been instrumental in boosting tourism in the northeast and its neighboring regions by introducing innovative train services focused on tourism and making travel safer, more comfortable, and more convenient for visitors.
“Through these efforts, the NFR has opened new doors for domestic and international travellers to explore the culturally rich and scenic beauty of the region,” he stated.
The installation of tourist trains with Vistadome coaches is one of the major measures that NFR has taken to promote tourism, according to the CPRO.
There are currently five such trains with Vistadome coaches in the northeast, which allow visitors to take in the stunning scenery as they travel from North Bengal to destinations like Haflong, Badarpur, Jorhat, Agartala, Naharlagun, and areas of the Dooars area, Sharma told the media.
According to the railway representative, the DHR’s famous joyride trains now also have narrow gauge Vistadome cars. In addition, he said, the NFR has taken the initiative to introduce the ‘Bharat Gaurav’ trains, which are intended to highlight India’s natural beauty and cultural legacy. The region has been assigned a rake of 14 number coaches.
At several stations, first-rate tourist facilities have also been added, including executive lounges, modern retiring rooms, and rail coach restaurants.
The establishment of a picturesque tourism destination along the Brahmaputra riverfront next to the Bogibeel Bridge in Dibrugarh, which offers river excursions and a floating restaurant, further demonstrates the NFR’s dedication beyond railway stations, according to the CPRO.
